Diaper Need Awareness Week

Alleviating Diaper Need in North Louisiana

– This year, National Diaper Need Awareness Week is September 23-29, which is an effort to increase awareness of the issue of diaper need in the U.S.

Did you know that diaper need directly intersects with food insecurity? The National Diaper Bank Network reports that 28% of respondents to their diaper need survey shared that they skipped a meal to be able to provide more diapers.

The NDBN also shares that without clean diapers: babies are exposed to potential health risks and toxic stress; mothers are at an increased risk for maternal depression; parents are unable to access child care, which requires a daily supply of diapers; and parents miss work or school, resulting in lost wages.

In Louisiana, there are over 169,000 children under the age of 3. Catholic Charities of North Louisiana sees firsthand the struggle to provide diapers. Our Gabriel’s Closet program serves parents in need with education and resources. Parents and caregivers come to us in times of emergency or when times are tight, and we are there to help.

Join us in an effort to alleviate diaper need by donating diapers and wipes to Gabriel’s Closet during Diaper Need Awareness Week! Click here to visit our Amazon wish list and support us from wherever you are.
