Position: Immigration Advocate
Reports to: Director of Immigration Legal Services
Work location and Hours: Standard hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in person.
Description:
Catholic Charities North Louisiana is seeking a compassionate, energetic individual with excellent organization and time management skills who can assist our Immigration Attorney in providing immigration legal services to individuals and families in the area. This individual will work closely with the Immigration Attorney in serving the immigrant community in the area. In the beginning the successful candidate will provide administrative assistance and paralegal support for the Immigration Attorney while training to become an Accredited Representative with the Department of Justice. Once accreditation is obtained, this individual will provide services directly under the Immigration Attorney’s supervision.
The position requires someone who is fluent in English and Spanish, has an interest and capacity for legal work and has a heart for this kind of work.
Requirements:
- Fluency in Spanish
- Bachelor’s degree preferred OR 2-3 years equivalent experience
- Passion for serving our clients and the community at large.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work with diverse groups of coworkers, volunteers and clients.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a keen attention to detail
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience in immigration law or the legal field in general is a plus.
